One of the best parks in Whatcom county in our opinion is Hovander Park! Hovander is an expansive 350 acre park that gives you a glimpse into the pioneer farming techniques of the areas history. Admire antique farming equipment used by the Hovander family with the farm was in operation.

Visit in May through October to see the farm animals ranging from cows and goats to rabbits, chickens and geese! Bring your doggie companions to visit the off leash trails or go for a swim in the Nooksack river. Over a mile of the riverfront is accessible from Hovander park!

In the Summer months you can schedule a tour of this historic Hovander Manor! Built in 1903, all the furniture of this stunning home was brought over from Sweden and collected over the years from Otis Hovander. Take a gander through the Fragrance Garden and smell the seasonal blooms.

A long-standing pizza restaurant with a fun Hawaiian twist! The original location is found in Bellingham, but closer for your convenience is their Ferndale location. From their delicious one-of-a-kind pan pizza’s, Hawaiian bread sandwiches, to their gourmet, signature salads, it is hard to order wrong here. Some of our favorites to order are the Baja salad, Tiki Tan and Big Kahuna for pizzas, and the Bar-B-Que Killer Pork sandwich. A taste of Northern Italy fare meets the Pacific Northwest at Leader Block. They have an impressive wine selection, with bottles tastefully decorating the inside walls. It is hard to order wrong here! For starters our favorites are the Vongole, manilla clams in a wine, butter and garlic sauce, served with focaccia. It never hurts to ask for extra bread to soak up every drop of that broth! We also love the Insalata di Barbabietola, more commonly known as a beet salad, it is simple yet delicious. You can never go wrong with the Bolognese. A delectable meaty beef ragu, warms the soul. The Pappardelle is a favorite as well! Hearty, earthy mushrooms with italian sausage and wine, just delicious!
